My music education.
I trained in the UK, completing a BA (Hons) in Music with a principal study in Drum Kit and Percussion. My studies covered stick control and rudiments, time feel and subdivision, reading, coordination/independence, dynamics, and stylistic repertoire—from swing and bebop to funk, rock, pop, Latin and Afro-Cuban.
I later earned a Postgraduate Certificate in Music Education, specialising in one-to-one instrumental teaching. My professional development is ongoing: masterclasses with UK drummers across jazz, rock and funk; workshops on brushes, odd metres and polyrhythms, linear phrasing, ghost notes, and groove construction; plus sessions on recording techniques, e-kit programming/sample pads, and using technology in lessons.
My music experience as a drummer.
I’ve performed at venues in Demo and across the UK—clubs, festivals, weddings and corporate events, big bands and original projects. As a session drummer, I record kit and percussion for independent artists and media work. I’m comfortable reading charts and lead sheets, crafting parts quickly, and delivering clean multitrack stems to brief and deadline.
I also play regularly in pit orchestras for musical theatre, following click/tracks, vamps and segues, and hitting marks precisely. Technically, I’m confident with in-ear monitoring, click and backing tracks, tempo maps and count-ins; acoustic tuning and miking; and hybrid/electronic setups.
My work as a drum teacher in Demo.
I teach in Demo and online, working with beginners through to advanced players of all ages. Lessons are mainly one-to-one, with small-group “groove labs” available; I also teach as a visiting drum tutor in schools. Every student gets a tailored plan covering technique, coordination/independence, reading, time feel, dynamics, accents/ghost notes, fills and vocabulary, improvisation, stylistic skills, and soundcraft. We make quick lesson recordings to review progress. We set achievable weekly goals, share structured practice routines with target tempos and loop counts, and track progress lesson by lesson. Exam preparation is available for Trinity Rock & Pop and RSL Drum Kit, audition prep, and band coaching.
Drum lessons structure.
We start with a quick check-in to review progress and set one clear aim for the session. Then it’s a focused warm-up: seat height and kit setup, grip and rebound, singles/doubles/paradiddles, and a short hands-and-feet coordination drill to centre time and touch. A brief, practical musicianship block follows chosen to support today’s goal.
Next, we apply it on the kit. Most of the lesson is spent on repertoire and grooves: isolating tricky bars, looping transitions and fills, tightening time with a click, balancing dynamics, and shaping feel. Where useful, we record short takes for instant feedback. We wrap with a concise, targeted practice plan—rudiments, groove/fill loops, backing tracks, and checkpoints—so you know exactly what to do between lessons. Around exams, auditions or gigs, we shift more time to mock performances, count-ins, endurance, and click confidence while keeping a brief technique touchpoint.

EXTRAS
Play-along - Backing tracks - Tuning - Song learning
Lessons focus on practical drum-kit skills you can use straight away. Time and feel are central: subdivisions, click work, swing/shuffle/straight, and placement (laid-back/on top). You’ll develop reading, structure parts for songs, improvise fills and solos, and shape your tone through tuning, muffling. We also cover gear and setups: acoustic/e-kit basics, sample pads, and simple miking for rehearsal or recording.
Musically, we cover rock, pop, funk, soul/R&B, indie, blues, jazz foundations, reggae, and Latin/Afro-Cuban feels—with room to explore your favourites. We rehearse with a metronome and high-quality backing tracks so you can lock in time, test ideas safely, and build confidence for band settings. I provide tailored play-along tracks and slowed-down loops for home practise.
Drum lesson types.
ACOUSTIC DRUMS
Acoustic drum lessons focus on sound, groove, and solid technique. We build tight time and confident feel-grip and rebound, plus coordination, ghost-note control, accents, and dynamics across the kit. We shape tone the acoustic way: tuning and head choice, tasteful dampening, stick/brush selection, cymbal blend, touch, and balance so your kit sits naturally in the mix.
ELECTRONIC DRUMS
Electronic drum lessons focus on touch, time, and sound design tailored to e-kits. We begin with posture, seat height and pedal setup, rebound control and even strokes so your dynamics translate accurately to pads. You’ll calibrate the kit—hi-hat, triggers and zones—set sensible velocity curves. We also shape your sound: choosing kits, layering samples, sensible gain staging, basic EQ/compression in the module/DAW, and monitoring (in-ears vs speakers).
